THE NEURODIVERGENTS

Antonio Jiménez
Chile

Antonio is a history and geography teacher who discovered he was autistic at the age of 41. He currently lives in Temuco, in southern Chile.

After his diagnosis, he decided to share his experience as an autistic person on social media and to start several initiatives to help other autistic people create support networks and find information easily and quickly.
Antonio creates audiovisual content such as videos, memes, and posts about his daily life, using simple and direct language.
One of Antonio’s first initiatives was the creation of communities of autistic people in twelve cities across the country, communities that have managed to thrive, creating spaces for conversation and meetings where they can exchange experiences and build support networks.
Leveraging the reach of social media, he created a job bank for autistic people, with the aim of making the services they offer known and creating job opportunities for many.
He is currently working on the creation of a project of free talks for the entire autistic community. The aim is to make access to information about autism easy, simple, and democratic for people on the autism spectrum, their families, and professionals working in the field.

Another of Antonio’s activities is teaching. He currently uses his experience to teach online classes to young people who need to complete their studies, prepare for university, or for other reasons. In addition, he provides counseling to family members and caregivers of autistic people on various topics.
Finally, he gives talks as an autistic education professional in schools, to teachers, parents, and mothers of autistic children throughout the region where he lives.
Antonio is a great scholar of autism, but his idea is to carry out simple actions that allow everyone to learn about autism.

Finally, as an autistic activist, his goal is to defend the rights of autistic people and respect for identity as a fundamental human right.
