La Dr.ssa Gaus ha un dottorato di ricerca in psicologia (PhD, ABPP), è abilitata alla professione dallo Stato di New York e ha una certificazione in psicologia comportamentale e cognitiva dall’American Board of Professional Psychology. È psicoterapeuta dal 1994, specializzata in psicoterapia individuale per adulti di tutte le età, dai 18 ai 98 anni, con una vasta esperienza al servizio di persone con disabilità, disturbi dello spettro autistico, ansia, depressione, traumi e problemi legati allo stress. Si avvicina alla terapia utilizzando un approccio cognitivo-comportamentale. Ha scritto numerosi articoli, capitoli e libri su questi argomenti, tra cui «Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder», 2nd Edition, pubblicato nel 2019 da Guilford Press e «Living Well on the Spectrum: How to Use Your Strengths to Meet the Challenges of Asperger Syndrome/High Functioning Autism», pubblicato nel 2011 da Guilford Press.
